About Us

What We Do

Frith Youth Centre is for young people aged 10-18 (Years 6-13) and the wider local community of Chalford, Bussage, Eastcombe and Bisley. Following the pandemic, Frith Youth Centre has undergone staff changes to a new team of qualified and professional youth workers. From June 2020 the new team alongside members of the local community successfully fundraised and worked together to completely renovate the building. Following this, the new centre and team are due to open in June 2021 to engage young people from the local community in positive activities to support personal and social development. The centre is also available for use by local organisations, private hire and functions for community groups – see here for more information.

History

In 2014 the project almost closed due to lack of funds and volunteers. The Chalford Parish Council came to the rescue and now act as Trustees. Some of the Trustees alongside members of the community, work as part of a hands-on Management Team.

The project was originally founded in 1961 as the Bussage Boy’s Club – A large wooden hut provided recreational space for young males, with changing facilities adjacent to the local football pitch.

By 1974 it’s popularity had grown and it was extended with the addition of a new stone building, with facilities to meet the needs of the wider community. With the rise in equality, girls were now allowed to participate in the youth clubs that were provided.

Also in the 70’s extensive housing development took place in the local area and the project now sits at the edge of a large urban expansion. The resulting population has since grown to almost 7,000 people with an estimated 2,000 children and young people.

In 2001 extensive refurbishment works were carried out, with new roof, football changing rooms and showers, disabled toilets and kitchen. The facilities were renamed as “Frith Youth Centre”.
